DEVON HUERTA
my only wish is i die real

Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish — a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow — to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested...Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll.

Background:
"It takes a man to take care of his responsibilities. But it takes a good man to also love them." Devon's father was famous for those words and throughout his childhood, he could remember always hearing them as if they always echoed through the streets. And though he may not have really known what his father meant by those words at the time, the older the got and the more things that happened in his life, the more the words seemed to take on real meaning.

Devon Huerta was raised by his father, Francisco Huerta, from the moment he was born. Not because his mother, Dawn Parker, didn't want him or because she abandoned them. No it was nothing like that. She died in labor, leaving the two no choice but to make it on their own. Francisco and Dawn had met through friends only a few years before Devon was born. Dawn was beautiful young African American woman with a happy, toothy grin just like Devon's, an easy going personality, and very intelligent. His father, a handsome young Puerto Rican high school history teacher couldn't help but fall in love with her. They became pregnant with Devon  after two years of being married. So it was hard, extremely rough, on Francisco to lose his wife who he dearly loved and the mother of his newly born son. But they made it. Francisco was a good father to Devon . He taught him how to respect women the way his mother would have liked and just made sure to give Devon every bit of attention he could to make up for the fact there was only one of them.

When Devon  was seven years old, his father was introduced to another woman by a couple of his friends at work. It had been seven years after all, they were just trying to get their friend back out there. And they were right when they told him Dawn would have wanted him to find someone. She would have and he knew it. It wasn't long before Francisco was married to another fellow teacher, a woman with a few kids of her own. As it turned out, she was also pregnant. Devon would no longer be an only child.

From the time he was just a little boy, Devon knew that like his father, he wanted to be a teacher. History just wasn't his thing though. He likes to create. It had always been a passion. Whether it was building castles out of popsicle sticks or painting something he thought was gorgeous on a canvas or putting a series of words together to make poetry. Whatever it was, he loved it. After he graduated from high school, Devon went off to college and majored in Art, specializing in painting and photography. He also earned a Masters in Art and a teaching credential, all with the intention of going back to the high school he graduated from to be an art teacher. He could honestly say he was one of the few people of his graduating class who was doing exactly what they always wanted to. However, while Devon was completing the thesis for his Masters, he got a job at The Boys and Girls Club. He moved up quickly and with his educational background, Devon scored a job as the Director of the old Boys and Girls Club in his neighborhood. He jumped at the chance and though it wasn't teaching, it was exactly what he wanted to do.

Personality:
Devon is a curious guy. Always wondering how things work and what they're about. He's the kind of guy you can strike up a conversation with about anything random and he'll have a ball discussing it. He's creative, always looking for an opportunity to create or manipulate things physically.

He loves being able to work with kids and thinks he's pretty damn good at it, despite the fact that everyone thinks he looks more like one of the kids than the teachers. But Devon is organized, a reliable guy who always gets his work done and does his best to give his very best to everything he gets involved with. Be it a project or a person.

Devon's a good natured, social kind of guy. He's always down to hang out with his friends or offer an ear to one of his students, maybe toke up a little now and then. He rarely gets mad at anyone and would rather spread the love than the hate. Devon tends to encourage himself to look at all sides of a situation so he can understand everyone's point of view. He has a good sense of humor and enjoys the company of others, even if it's just sitting with them in a quiet atmosphere.
